Lighthouse To Lighthouse Mountain Biking
Date: 8-9 FEBRUARY 2014
The Lighthouse to Lighthouse Mountain Bike Ride kicks off on the Saturday from the historic Danger Point Lighthouse near Gansbaai at 7:00. The route then follows old wagon trails used more than a century ago. Meandering through spectacular Fynbos the route takes you along gravel roads and farm trails.
Privately owned property gets opened for the Lighthouse to Lighthouse riders and allows for beautiful seashore views and takes you next to an area known for its shipwrecks. After enjoying the sights, cast your sights to the Lighthouse at the most southern tip of Africa.
Agulhas Caravan Park is the resting place for the evening, where a delicious meal and well-earned rest can be had. After breakfast the marathon heads back to Gansbaai. The route takes you through the quaint village of Elim and then heads into Gansbaai with stunning views of Walker Bay.
The total distance of the race is 180km and makes for a good practice for riders training for bigger races later in the year. The full 180km race can be done for R550 or you can opt to join the race only on Sunday for R440. Meals are extra.
For those eager beavers, camping facilities are available at the Danger Point Lighthouse and your luggage can be transported from Gansbaai to Agulhas and back. Secure parking for vehicles are also available at the Danger Point Lighthouse.
